Mediq

New website designs for Mediq Nordics

Problem to solve

Mediq is a connector between several medical instances and stakeholders to improve the health of clients by providing them with medical products and services. To offer their services, they make use of several transactional webportals; a Business-to-Business (B2B and/or B2SME), a Business-to-Consumer (B2C) and a Business-to-Prescriber (B2P) portal. Next to these three transactional websites, Mediq has several content only websites.

Due to maintaining competitive advantage, Mediq is busy reviving its digital solution landscape to meet the expectations and requests of their customers and with the county councils and municipalities Mediq has contracts with. All webportals are replaced one by one. For each country an eCommerce selection trajectory is done to determine which solution fits best the functionalities of each transactional webportal. To make this selection, an analysis trajectory needs to be conducted with an end-result a functional design and technical design.

Mediq Sweden and Norway The replacement I was helping with was for Mediq Sweden and Norway. Nowadays, Mediq Sweden serves nutrition products to businesses (B2B) and patients (B2C). For offering these nutrition products to patients, Mediq Sweden offers a prescriber portal (B2P) to professionals to prescribe products to patients. Mediq Norway serves a complete range of products in nutrition, incontinence, ostomy, wound to businesses (B2B). This portal needs a punch-out solution. The eCommerce solution that was chosen is Magento, because of the best fit with the required functionalities in all three solutions (B2B, B2C, B2P) and because some of the Business Units of Mediq are already working with Magento, which makes it easier to re-use existing code.

As a UX Designer, I was helping with the analysis trajectory for Mediq Sweden and Norway, for which I created the functional design, with functional descriptions (requirements) and wireframes.

What I did

Research & workshop facilitation

For creating the functional design, I had to make a deep dive in the medical business, the business of Mediq and Mediq Norway and Sweden. I need to understand what prescriptions, and assignments (authorizations) are, how they are created and how they work. What patients can or cannot order, how Mediq is dependent on municipalities or national legislation etc.

To understand these processes I did consumer, desk and market research, for which I also facilitated multiple workshops on location (in Sweden) or via Skype to dig deep in the current way of working, but also to discover what had to be changed to meet the wishes and requirements for the future portals.

Persona, journey map & process flow creation

One of the activities during my research period was plotting the as-is situation by making use of process flows, personas, journey maps and system mapping. Making this visible was helping me a lot to look at the relevant functionalities from multiple perspectives and grasping the as-is situation.

From there we started ideating on the to-be situation by making the pains, gains, anxieties and comforts visible of the different personas, journeys and processes.

Requirement Analysis

I transformed all this information into requirements and then into user stories that were ordered into an Excel. All necessary for creating a good overview for the functional and technical design we had to create.

Wireframing & Prototyping

For making the requirements and user stories visible, I created multiple wireframes (low fidelity) and designs (high fidelity) that were included in the functional design.

Impact & Learnings

The deliverable for the new B2C, B2B and B2Prescriber portal was a functional design with functional descriptions (requirements) and wireframes and technical designs with technical descriptions, datamodels, interface descriptions and an architecture overview. I was mainly helping with the functional design.

These designs were used for an Request for Proposal, which was won by Capgemini who is now (2017) doing the implementation of these portals.
